Softwood

.Our softwood logs are sourced from a high‑quality mix of conifer species, typically including spruce, larch and pine. Softwood grows faster and has a lighter, less dense structure with naturally higher resin content. This makes it quick to ignite, perfect for starting fires, and a more cost‑effective option compared to hardwood.

Because softwood contains more resin, it may produce occasional sparks. For this reason, we recommend using softwood in wood‑burning stoves or log burners, where the enclosed design keeps your fire safe and controlled.

Lakes Wood Fuel supplies well‑seasoned, barn‑stored softwood firewood with a moisture content below 20%, meeting strict Woodsure Ready to Burn standards. This ensures a clean, efficient burn with excellent heat output and easy ignition.

Our timber is responsibly sourced and seasoned for 6–12 months, or kiln‑dried where required, to achieve optimal dryness. Once cut, split and dried, the logs are stored in ventilated barns to maintain consistent air circulation. This careful process produces top‑quality softwood logs that are fully ready to burn.

Logs are cut to around 20–25cm (8–10 inches). Their size makes them ideal for smaller wood‑burning stoves and quick fire‑starting – perfect for homes and holiday cottages across the Lake District.
